Public microdata

The Croatian Bureau of Statistics provides its users with access to publicly available microdata prepared as protected databases or public use files in accordance with Article 19 of Regulation (EC) No 223/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 March 2009 on European statistics.

Public use files contain data on individual statistical units that have been prepared in such a way that the statistical unit cannot be identified, either directly or indirectly, when account is taken of all relevant means that might reasonably be used by a third party.

Given the implemented statistical data protection, the loss of information is higher and, therefore, statistical calculations based on these data do not have to be accurate and cannot be used to draw conclusions about the wider population.

Public use files are therefore not suitable for scientific purposes, but are intended for:

  • researchers, who may use confidential data of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics for scientific purposes in accordance with legal regulations, as preparation for the implementation of a research project and the development of a programme code, given that the structure of public use files is identical to that for scientific use
  • for educating researchers about the complexity and usefulness of data from statistical research
  • for holding statistics courses.

Public use files are available to all users and, together with the associated metadata, they can be downloaded from the website of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics after registration.

List of available public use files:

- Census of Population, Households and Dwellings 2011

- Tourist Activity of the Population of the Republic of Croatia, 2016

- Adult Education Survey, 2016
