TRAFFIC IN AIRPORTS, JANUARY 2021

The total traffic of passengers in Croatian airports amounted to 49 178 in January 2021, which was 81.0% less than in the same month of 2020, when the total traffic of passengers amounted to 258 192.

The circumstances brought about by the spread of the COVID-19 disease have directly influenced the decrease in the traffic of passengers in Croatian airports.

The largest traffic of passengers was recorded in the Zagreb Airport, with 37 thousand passengers (a decrease of 81.4% compared to January 2020, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 201 thousand), followed by the Split Airport, with 7 thousand passengers (a decrease of 79.0% compared to January 2020, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 35 thousand), and the Dubrovnik Airport, with 4 thousand passengers (a decrease of 80.3% compared to January 2020, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 19 thousand).

The most significant international traffic of passengers was realised with German airports, 10 thousand passengers, which was a decrease of 86.6% compared to the same period of 2020.

The total number of landings and take-offs in airports in January 2021 amounted to 2 197 movements, which was 51.1% less than in January 2020, when the total number of landings and take-offs in airports amounted to 4 494 movements.

The total traffic of freight in airports in January 2021 amounted to 557 tonnes, which was a decrease of 26.7% compared to January 2020, when the total traffic of freight in airports amounted to 760 tonnes.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Sources and methods of data collection

Cumulative data are not always equal to the sum of individual monthly results due to the rounding of numbers to the nearest thousand.

The purpose of the survey is to collect data on the number of all aircraft movements and the traffic of passengers and freight on commercial operations in airports and air landing places of the Republic of Croatia.

The observation units and reporting units are airports in the Republic of Croatia. Data are collected in the form of electronic datasets and on the PZ/M-21 form.

Coverage

The data on air traffic (total aircraft movements, traffic of passengers and freight in airports) relate to the activities of the airports of Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Pula, Rijeka, Zadar, Osijek, Brač and the air landing place of Mali Lošinj.

The number of total aircraft movements in airports refers to the number of all (commercial and non-commercial) operations of landing and taking-off of an aircraft, except state flights (military, customs, police).

Traffic of passengers in airports includes the number of passengers who have departed or arrived on commercial operations. Passengers in direct transit are excluded. Direct transit passengers are passengers who, after a short stop, continue their journey on the same aircraft on a flight having the same flight number as the flight on which they arrived.

Traffic of freight in airports refers to the loaded and unloaded goods and mail on commercial operations other than the baggage of passengers. The freight in direct transit is excluded.
